PROGRAMMING
YOURSELF: Manifesting
the Life You Want
|
What
You Focus On Expands
Some people roll their eyes whenever
anyone mentions affirmations. But the only testimonial
you'll ever need to know that it actually works is your
own experience.
"It
is the mind which creates the world about us, and even
though we stand side by side in the same meadow, my
eyes will never see what is beheld by yours, my heart
will never stir to the emotions with which yours is
touched." ~ George Gissing
We
could go into a lengthy discussion about the brain's
reticular activating system to explain why affirmations
actually work, or we can have a mind-blowing conversation
on quantum physics and the nature of "reality,"
but there is a great deal of work on those subjects
already.
"The
mere act of observing something changes the nature of
the thing observed." ~ Werner K. Heisenberg, Heisenberg
Uncertainty Principle
Perhaps
it's more compelling to know that some of the most successful
people in the world used affirmations to achieve their
goals and dreams:
- Andrew
Carnegie
- Napoleon
Hill
- Anthony
Robbins
- Scott
Adams
(creator of Dilbert)
If
these giants of achievement believed in the power of
affirmations, if it worked for them, then it's certainly
worth the effort for the rest of us to give it a try.
"Good
thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bear bad fruit."
~ James Allen
Tips
for using affirmations:
- Keep
them simple. One idea at a time.
- Work
on only a handful of goals at a time.
- Always
frame them in positive terms. Avoid sentences like
"I do not ..." or "I never ..."
- Phrase
your affirmations in the present tense.
- Repetition
is key. Use various methods and media to get the ideas
firmly in your mind:
-
Write down your affirmations.
- Speak
them aloud.
- Recite
them while looking into your own eyes in a mirror.
- Make
a poster of your affirmations with pictures representing
the ideas, and hang it on the ceiling over your
bed.
- Create
a scrapbook of your affirmation goals, collect
pictures that fulfill your vision of acheivement,
and paste them in there. Browse your book often.
- Recite
them quietly to yourself whenever you have an
idle moment.
- Tape
your voice reciting your affirmations and listen
to that tape everytime you work-out, while driving,
and before you go to sleep at night.
- Stick
them on your refrigerator.
- Allow
yourself to feel certainty and excitement about the
outcome.
"To
be healthy, wealthy, happy and successful in any and
all areas of your life you need to be aware that you
need to think healthy, wealthy, happy and successful
thoughts twenty four hours a day and cancel all negative,
destructive, fearful and unhappy thoughts. These two
types of thought cannot coexist if you want to share
in the abundance that surrounds us all." ~ Sidney
Madwed
And
now, you are ready to start re-programming your life.
Below
are examples of affirmations. For the most part, they
are general, quality-of-life type of affirmations. If
you have specific goals in mind, then your affirmations
should be specific as well.
Example:
If your objective is to exceed your department's sales
goal for that month, which will win you a bonus trip
to Tahiti, then your affirmations should be highly specific:
"I will achieve more than $100,000.00 in
sales this month, and I will win the trip to Tahiti.
I am going to Tahiti."
